Family Constellations are a way of bringing the hidden dynamics within families, for example addictions, exclusions and mental health problems, into the open in a way that is constructive and manageable.
It can also help us to discover the reasons behind some of our frustrating or perhaps unhelpful behaviour patterns and responses.
A Constellation is a way of creating a visual snapshot of the family. This can be done in an individual setting using objects, for example, felt markers to represent family members. Alternatively it can be done in a group setting.
For example, for one client, setting up objects representing family members really highlighted the complex nature of her family history. This visual representation created a changed perspective which allowed for the possibility of new and changed responses.
